Plagiarism Detection

The plagiarism detection software is a part of the University's quality system of education and research.

The use of the software is not a separate form or method of instruction or grading but an aid in instructing thesis writers.

As of 1 August 2014 all theses (Bachelor's and Master's theses as well as licenciate and doctoral theses) written for the University of Vaasa are checked against plagiarism using Turnitin software before they are accepted. Also, an entry of the check will be added on the students' transcripts of records.

Students submit their theses for plagiarism check at latest when they leave their theses for grading.

All theses submitted for grading are checked for originality using Turnitin. A thesis must be checked using the software before the student is given a permission to print the thesis. Theses printed and submitted for grading on 31 July 2014 or before are not run through the software.
