Department of Electrical Engineering and Energy Technology

Clean energy will create welfare now and in the future

The significance of energy generation is growing everywhere in the world and will continue to do so in the future. Electricity is clean and it can be generated, distributed and used in an increasingly efficient and environmentally friendly way.

The University of Vaasa's teaching and research in the field of technology began in the 1990s, in response to requests from export businesses. All of the professional subject areas of our department – automation technology, energy technology and electrical engineering – were started with external funding through grant professorships. In addition, our department is responsible for teaching physics at the University of Vaasa. Highly educated and skilled Bachelors of Science in Technology (B.Sc. (Tech)), Masters of Science in Technology (M.Sc. (Tech)) and Doctors of Science in Technology (D.Sc. (Tech)) are in demand at internationally active energy technology companies for their technological solutions and services businesses.

Our innovative EEA department is focused on modern technology that has a high level of significance in international business operations. Our areas of emphasis are: energy solutions of the future, decentralised electrical energy distribution systems, smart electricity grids, modern fuel combustion engine technology and related bio fuels, wind energy and other renewable energy sources, efficient electronics, image processing, optimisation and computer modelling.

In addition to secure employment, the sector offers interesting topics and research tasks as part of the degree itself, which in B.Sc. (Tech) studies usually begin with a Takuuteekkari® work placement. We continuously develop all of our operations in conjunction with companies and other partners.
